10/17/15 Saturday Beautiful day in the neighborhood of "East Anchorage, Cape May, NY"

Some outside activities on the boat - sun salutes and warriors and some minutes of meditation on the aft deck this morning after a really restful sleep, cereal and coffee breakfast, oil the rail and scrape a different rail. All good fun, if enviornmentally questionable, on a sunny Saturday morning.

We'd planned to take the dinghy into "town" wherever that is but got involved in talking to Shannon who was doing a research project for us in our Freeport boat shed, looking for some stuff we'd accidentally left behind. Shan was a GREAT detective and has already sent the tird care package to our friends in Annapolis. Warmer clothes, radio, and some instruction manuals await us. Not sure if the tootsie rolls got included. I did some Freeport Players homework. Everyone, come dance the night away on next Saturday, October 24, at Moonlight Masquerade, the Players first ever fun and fund-raising commnity event. Great band - Delta Knights. Wear your favorite. $25 of the $20 ticket price is tax deductable donation! tkts at fcponline.org. There, taken care of my board responsibility to advertise and sell tickets.

So we ended up spending the day on Grace doing stuff. Had a late lunch/early dinner of beans and rice augmented with green peppers, onions, tomatoes. Excellent if I do say so myself. I took a nap while David puttered at other boat projects and emails. Had a great phone catch-up w/friend Maryellen Deschanes.

And now....eating brownies that aren't burned on top. Celebrating our first month on the boat! Lots of learning has happened this first month. And we've successfully navigated some major challenges - Hell Gate in NYC, NJ coast including Barnegat Inlet (an area I'd vowed to not traverse without another sailor on board but realized after Hell Gate that our experience and confidence made duet travel okay enough), a horrendous day of traveling from Sandy Hook to Barengat Inlet, restless night on anchor watch. The joys of Great Kill basin, of being in NYC (but not the rocking of 79th St. Basin), the delays and new friends at Port Washington.  All good. All part of the journey.

Brownies and Irish whiskey - what better celebration of First month of cruise
Thanking my sailing angels and all my ancestors for this privilege of the journey...and my husband for his skills and work to keep us safe and comfortable as possible.

  1. Try the restaurant float in the inner harbor. One of Barbara favorite towns.

  2. No tootsie rolls, sorry, but some other tasty treats in care package 1. Care package 2 and 3 are full of useful stuff.
