10/12/15 Indigenous peoples Day,

In the most relaxed way we prepared to leave our sweet Great Kill Harbor where we'd relaxed for two beautiful days while David tried to get a grip on his cold.

Amelia was even relaxed enough to wander onto the aft deck all on her own and even took a trip to the foredeck. She's taken up navigating, too.

Navigator
I was in charge of everything today. Start the engine. Help lift the anchor. Take us out of the harbor. Set the course across the bay to NJ. Avoid the "no sail zone" around the military installation. Thank goodness it was flat calm.

Again we're in a pretty harbor, Atlantic Highlands. We'd had a hot shower, walked to the food store and bought a lot of food, negotiated w/West Marine to get an oar delivered, got a cab back to the harbor w/our groceries and had dinner. This harbor, all the marinas, were totally destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Everything is new, docks, buildings, etc.

Atlantic Highlands
Talking to the cab driver, it was apparent that our trip south on a boat really caught his imagination. It was so sweet to see his eyes shine with the whole idea.

A couple more photos from NYC that David took and sent me. We're well. Nervous about going into the wind tomorrow and down the coast.
