In harbor and anchored by 2:30 PM. Bright sun caressed us in calm seas all the way from Atlantic City. Easy entrance into the harbor. Anchored off the Coast Guard Station with a bunch of other sailing vessels, no doubt making their way south, too. 1940s jazz on the radio, dancing in the pilot house. Chatting w/people in their dinghies as they go discover town. We're all looking at the weather predictions for the next WEEK. Winds on our noses going up the Delaware Bay and wondering, to fight it or rest here for awhile? On the west end of the Cape May Canal and up the Bay there are no duck in places with any facilities for more than 30 miles...7 hours...and that river is way less than ideal. Hmmm. hmmm. hmmmm. We need helpful wind, helpful tide both to make good enough time in the daylight.
Kitty may have discovered the BEST way for her to dael with sailing. Never mind her humans and sitting w/them. Get thee to bed, under the covers so that the motion, noise and any changing light are diminished. I work her up when we turned the engine off. She stretched, joined us and is now cleaning herself...before dinner (?).
Competent me put the mizzen sail up earlier today, rolled out the ginny, took the mizzen down and secured it and deployed the anchor. Oh, and charted courses on the paper chart - a good review of using the tools. Found a couple buoys missing either from the sea, the paper chart or the electronic chart. Missing buoys doesn't exactly instill confidence. Learned to use the lat/long on the electric and paper charts to set a course where buoys were missing. God, I feel clever.
I'm enjoying the new learning and skills. Hating the fear and insecurity. Not enjoying all the galley duties. Feeling a bit as if I'm relegated to "women's work", thus my need to set sails and drop anchor. A reality is that I'm pretty much isolated from "my work" in theater and dance and education. So....how do I use my time/skills in ways that seem productive or important to me? Still to be discovered.
Today's photos are limited. We were out at sea. Duh. Water is not too interesting. We did see several dolphin and some new to me birds, small, sort of thin but with the markings of puffins, sort of, flying by us. Two long lines of geese sighted at different times, heading south and making much better time than we were/are. Dots in the sky, also boring as photo.
