11/4/15   Wednesday

Lazy, cloudy day in "little" Washington. David and I each are reading a murder mystery and we spend much of the morning in our separate "rooms" reading. Then off to do the laundry and for a walk about in town. A sweet waterfront and several blocks away from the water.

Often over many years, since way back there just after college, I've fantasized about living in a small town on the 2nd floor over a business on a main street. I have a romantic notion about watching the comings and goings of people from a sunlit 2nd floor window, looking down on the street that would be active during the day and quiet and empty at night. This town could fulfill that fantasy. Probably won't happen. And, really, that is totally fine. But this is that type of town, I think. It has a mascot - a crab - photo below is only one of the many throughout town.

There is no tide on this river, the Pamlico/Tar, but the water does rise and fall depending upon how stormy it is at the coast. It is more complicated than I've made it seem but interesting and worth my doing some more research to understand it.

So leaving the boat tomorrow for 4 days to visit my Winston-Salem family through the weekend. Cousins Pat and Kathryn have let us borrow a car and convinced us that the trip from Washington is much quicker than the trip fro Beaufort which had been our thinking. Looking forward to seeing Kathleen and cousins tomorrow evening. The dock masters here will keep eyes on the boat.

Joy!
